John Higgins tipped to land fourth UK Championship title in York
All eyes will head to the Barbican Centre in York over the next couple of weeks as snooker's UK Championship takes centre stage, and a star-studded field will line up in what is the second biggest tournament in the calendar and all 128 players will be doing battle to try and etch their name on the coveted trophy and it's Australian potter Neil Robertson who will be the reigning champion.
- Neil Roberton won this event in 2015
- John Higgins hit a 147 last week in Northern Ireland Open
- Ronnie O'Sullivan bids for a sixth win in UK Championship

O'Sullivan Favourite To Land Sixth UK Success
Ronnie O'Sullivan will head into the tournament as the 4/1 favourite with Sky Bet as he attempts to win the event for the sixth time, and having last lifted the title in 2014, where he beat Judd Trump, then he is always a name that has to be respected in this competition, and if he can produce his best snooker then is the one they all have to beat.
However, he suffered a disappointing 4-3 defeat to Kyren Wilson in the Northern Ireland Open last week and that last-16 loss shows that he is certainly not at his invincible best this season, so while we all know that O'Sullivan can spark back into life at any point he maybe worth ignoring in this event, which will be shown live in front of the BBC sport cameras, and it's worth looking elsewhere for a bet.
In-Form Higgins Value To Land Fourth UK Victory
Scottish star John Higgins has been in tremendous form over the last couple of months and having won both the China Championship and Champion Of Champions recently he then added another notable achievement in the Northern Ireland Open last weekend, as he recorded his eighth career 147, before losing to Mark Williams in the fourth round.
Higgins, who has won this event three times before, will relish the chance to play long matches as he gets to the business end of the tournament, and at 12/1 with bet365 bookmakers looks a little too big in the betting, and if he can continue his fine displays on the baize in York then has to be the value play.
Robertson, Trump & Selby All Fancied Contenders
As with every tournament we have the same old faces holding prominent positions at the head of the betting and Mark Selby, who won the tournament in 2012, is always one name to etch on the shortlist at 7/1 with Betway, while Judd Trump will aim to add this year's title to the one he won in 2011 and the Bristolian is as big as 17/2 with Betfred.
Reigning champion Neil Robertson will aim to become the first player since Stephen Hendry in 1996 to retain this crown, and while the 'Thunder from Down Under' has won this event in two of the last three years he didn't line up in the Northern Ireland Open last week, and maybe worth taking on at 11/1 with Coral.
Of the others, Ding Junhui (11/1) is a previous winner of the event and has to be given some consideration, while fresh from his first tour win in 25 years Mark King will hope to continue his fine form, but Coral don't think lightning can strike twice and he is 300/1 to follow up last week's win over Barry Hawkins.
