Selby To Rocket His Way To The 2017 Masters Snooker Finale

The 2017 Masters Snooker gets underway at Alexandra Palace on Sunday afternoon and we are backing the leading two in the betting, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Selby, to face off in the final on Sunday 22nd January...

  • Mark Selby has won The Masters three times and finished runner-up twice
  • Ronnie O'Sullivan is a six-time winner of The Masters

Tips Selby and O'Sullivan to reach the final    Best Bet @ 13 / 2

O'Sullivan And The Top-Half Of The Draw

O'Sullivan (3/1 with Betfair) has a fine pedigree at the Masters as he has won the tournament six times and finished runner-up five times, with 'The Rocket' winning two of the past three editions. The defending champion thrashed Barry Hawkins 10-1 in last year's final and he opens up this year's event with a clash against Liang Wenbo.

The winner of that match could face Neil Robertson in the quarter-finals and the Australian has twice reached the final since winning the Masters in 2012 but his recent UK Championship defence ended in the first round, while it doesn't augur well that he has lost his past two meetings with O'Sullivan by a combined scoreline of 15-5.

The other ties in the top-half of the draw are Judd Trump against Marco Fu, as well as John Higgins against Mark Allen, and we are backing O'Sullivan to come through anything they have to offer.

The Jester

In the bottom-half of the draw, world number one Mark Selby opens up against Mark Williams and he can build on an electric start to the season that has seen him win the Paul Hunter Classic, finish runner-up at the Shanghai Masters and reach the semi-finals of the International Championship.

More importantly, Selby landed the UK Championship by beating O'Sullivan in the final and we fancy the pair to meet in this Masters final too, with Paddy Power going 13/2 about an O'Sullivan-Selby final.

Selby, who has won the Masters three times and twice finished runner-up, is 4/1 for a fourth crown (Betfair.com).

The Bottom-Half

Shaun Murphy could be waiting for Selby in the quarter-finals but the 2015 champion must first come through a tricky match with last year's finalist Barry Hawkins. Murphy is yet to win a title this season and his Masters defence ended with a shock early exit last year.

The other last-sixteen ties to look out for in the bottom-half of the draw are Stuart Bingham against Joe Perry and Ding Junhui versus Kyren Wilson.
