Rocket Ronnie

Since the non-ranking tournament returned to the schedule in 2013, O'Sullivan has taken a real liking to the Champion of Champions format, winning the title in 2013 and 2014 before finishing runner-up to John Higgins in 2016.

'Rocket' (9/2 with Paddy Power) looks focused as he won the England Open recently and it would be dangerous to read too much into his defeat at the hands of the prodigiously talented Yan Bingtao at the International Championship in China last week.

In fact, the early exit has meant the five-time world champion won't have to deal with any excessive travel as he was back in England in plenty of time for this week's tournament and we fancy his chances.

He comes up against Neil Robertson in his first match and the winner of that will go on to face reigning champion John Higgins or Anthony McGill, while Ding Junhui could well be waiting in the semi-finals.

Junhui has a decent record in this tournament as he has made two semi-finals and one other quarter-final in four visits, although 15/2 seems a very skinny price.

The Bottom-Half Of The Draw

Mark Selby is in the bottom-half of the draw and the man who has won four titles in the past twelve months can be backed at 9/2 (PaddyPower.com). However, Selby heads straight from his International Championship success in China at the weekend to Coventry and we fancy fatigue could be an issue for a player who is in a tough section of the draw.

Selby could face Judd Trump in his second match at the Ricoh and Trump is available at 11/2. The European Masters winner has reached four finals in 2017 and he was runner-up at the Champion of Champions in 2014, with Betfair going 16/1 for Trump and O'Sullivan to meet in the final (Name the Finalists betting market).
