The final match of the 2011 Tri Nations tournament is a winner takes all clash as Australia take on New Zealand in Brisbane on Saturday. The two sides are level on points at the head of the table and New Zealand start as strong 4/9 favourites in the betting with Bet 365, with Australia priced 9/5, and the draw 20/1 at the Suncorp Stadium.
It is a surprise it has come down to this as the All Blacks have been so dominant throughout the tournament, until a second string side lost to South Africa in Port Elizabeth last weekend. Graham Henry opted to field several reserve players for the match and they were left to count the cost as they were bullied in an 18-5 defeat.
The likes of Dan Carter, Richie McCaw and Cory Jane are set to return to the starting line up on Saturday, and Jane will be looking to add to his try tally in the tournament so far. Jane is 8/1 in the betting to be first tryscorer in Brisbane and he is well worth looking out for.
The World Cup favourites have named their squad for next month's tournament and they will be looking to extend their excellent record against Australia as they step up preparations for next month.
New Zealand have beaten the Wallabies in nine of their last ten matches and they come up against an Australian side that has been experiencing problems during the past week. Robbie Deans named his squad for the World Cup, although Tri Nations top points scorer James O'Connor missed the unofficial unveiling of the thirty players.
O'Connor has scored 28 points in the Tri Nations but Deans has taken the brave move to drop the young star. Without him Australia could struggle to overcome New Zealand and it is worth noting that they don't have the same physical power as South Africa used to overcome New Zealand last weekend.
Australia have failed to score in the opening half of their last two matches and a look at the double result of a half time and full time New Zealand win looks a decent punt at 10/11 with Bet365.com.
Recent history is against the Wallabies as well as they have not won the Tri Nations tournament for ten years and they have lost tournament deciders in the past - in 2004, 2007 and 2008.
Their record against the All Blacks in Brisbane doesn't make for happy reading either as they have failed to win in three meetings there, losing by five points on average in each match. New Zealand are 13/8 to win by 1-12 points on Saturday, while for a bit more value the win by 1-5 points can be backed at 9/2 in the betting with B365.
Meanwhile, New Zealand are priced evens in the handicap market with a handicap of -5 points and they could well overcome that with another Tri Nations win and ensure they head to the World Cup as hot favourites.
