Since Italy joined the Six Nations in 2000, the two teams have met in Rome five times with Italy winning three and Scotland two, but the results of these matches have gone in a strict sequence, with Italy winning one then Scotland winning the next and so on and so forth. Trends and sequences of course should not be the guide as to which team will win this match, instead it should be just the simple form and current ability of both sides and on that basis it is definitely Scotland who should win. They were the best team in that match until the last five minutes and only after they had lost two players to the ‘sin bin’.
