Tournament favourites New Zealand take on France in the biggest match of the Rugby World Cup so far. Saturday morning's match at Eden Park, Auckland could well decide who finishes top of Pool A and New Zealand are odds on favourites at 1/14 with Paddy Power, while a much-changed France are a 7/1 punt.
Whoever finishes top of Pool A could face South Africa or Australia in the knockout stages if they are to go on and reach the final, and the All Blacks are well set to secure that win.
There has been plenty of controversy leading up to the match as French coach Marc Lievremont has opted to field what looks like a second string side. New Zealand have taken no such risks and are at full strength for the clash, with Richie McCaw and Dan Carter coming back in.
Both sides recorded comfortable wins in their opening two pool matches which has done little to provide too many clues for Saturday's match. However, recent history suggests New Zealand should notch a few tries as they have only failed to score a try in a World Cup match three times in history, the last being in 1999.
Richard Kahui has started the tournament in fine form with four tries in two matches and he can be backed at odds of 7/1 to be first try scorer with Paddy Power. The same bookmaker are offering to refund all losing single try scorer bets if a number eleven scores the first try of the match and as Kahui is a number eleven if could be worth hedging your bets with a punt on a French player.
France's main threat will undoubtedly come from the speedy winger Vincent Clerc, who has scored four tries in two matches to become the top French try scorer in World Cup history with nine tries overall. He is available at 14/1 to be first try scorer on Saturday with PaddyPower.com.
Despite France's apparently weak side, fourteen of the matchday 22 have beaten New Zealand before and six have beaten the All Blacks twice. Two of those most famous wins came during World Cups, in 1999 and 2007.
Les Bleus knocked out the All Blacks in the semi-finals and quarter-finals respectively, with the 2007 defeat particularly galling as New Zealand had led 13-3 at half time before going down 20-18. It was a stunning defeat and continued the recent trend of these matches being close affairs.
Three of the last four meetings between the two have been won by five points or less and Paddy Power offer a tempting 16/5 for New Zealand to win by 1-10 points. Whatever side France put out they will need little motivating against the All Blacks and Les Bleus could be worth backing at 10/11 in the handicap market as they start with a huge advantage of +18 points.
