Martin Johnson's England are looking to seal their first Six Nations Grand Slam win since 2003 when they play Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Saturday. Johnson was captain the last time England won the Grand Slam and Paddy Power bookmakers have them as 8/15 favourites in the betting for the 5pm start. Ireland will take no motivating though and can be backed at 6/4, with the draw priced 20/1.
England have all but secured the Six Nations title with four wins from four this season, only a heavy defeat and a big Wales win against France would see Wales pip them. Wales still need to make up the 42 point different between the sides and are still in with a mathematical chance though. England's previous match in the tournament against Scotland served as a stark reminder that they won't have it all their own way and only the introduction of Matt Banahan at half time provided any sort of quality with ball in hand.
Banahan was influential when he came on as England scraped to a 22-16 win and he appears to have sealed a place in the side against Ireland. Captain Mike Tindall is definitely out so Nick Easter will take over leadership duties and Banahan will come in at centre. The hulking figure of Banahan looks great value in the first tryscorer betting with PaddyPower.com on Saturday and he can be backed at a very tempting 14/1.
Ireland meanwhile will be keen to end a disappointing campaign on a high after their 19-13 defeat to Wales last weekend left them floundering in fourth place, just two years after winning the Grand Slam themselves. They have made a couple of changes to the side that lost at the Millennium Stadium with Jonathan Sexton replacing Ronan O'Gara and Andrew Trimble coming in for Luke Fitzgerald. There was a positive to be taken from Cardiff though as Brian O'Driscoll scored a record equalling 24th Six Nations try and he is 9/1 to score the first match try this week or 11/4 to score anytime.
All of Ireland's matches so far have been close affairs as they edged to victory over Italy, narrowly missed out against France and scraped home against Scotland. It looks set to be another tight match on Saturday, particularly as the average points difference between the two sides in Six Nations history is just 3.78 points in England's favour. With that in mind the handicap betting market of Ireland to win with the advantage of +4 points could be a decent punt with PaddyPower.
It looks set to be a cracking tie and England could just get over the line to seal Grand Slam and Triple Crown glory, but it won't be easy against an Ireland side that will still be smarting from their own displays, and the 1-5 point winning margin for England could be the way to go at 16/5 in the betting.
