South Africa v Australia Betting: Back the Wallabies to win in Durban

South Africa and Australia meet at the King's Park Stadium in Durban as the Tri Nations continues on Saturday, with the World Cup looming large. South Africa can call upon a near full strength side for the first time in the tournament and they start as 4/6 favourites in the betting with Ladbrokes, but Australia are well worth a look at 11/8.

The South Africans opted to leave 20 players at home for the first two matches of the Tri Nations and they have come in for a huge amount of criticism as a result. Coach Peter de Villiers was accused of resting the players so they would be ready for the World Cup in September, which seems a fair tactic as they bid to defend the William Webb Ellis Cup.

The second-string were no match for Australia in their opening Tri Nations match in Sydney as they went down 39-20 and they were then hammered 40-7 by New Zealand. On home soil though and with their first team back in action they should provide a very different proposition.

De Villiers has made thirteen changes to his side as the likes of Bryan Habana, JP Pietersen, Fourie du Preez and Heinrich Brussow return. They have plenty to prove and the speedy Habana starts as a 10/1 favourite in the first try scorer betting.

It is a must-win match for South Africa as they sit bottom of the Tri Nations table with no points and the returning players will have plenty to prove as doubts are raised about their status as current world champions.

The concern for the Springboks will be the lack of match practise for many of their players as Habana hasn't played a competitive match for five weeks, while du Preez and Brussow appear for the national side for the first time in nearly two years.

We fancy the fact Australia's players have had more match time in recent weeks gives them the edge for this match and it is well worth remembering that they won their last visit to South Africa as they won 41-39 in Bloemfontein in September.

The Wallabies may have lost 30-14 to a hugely impressive New Zealand last weekend but Digby Ioane continues to impress as he made it three tries in his last three international appearances. Ioane is a tempting 12/1 in the first try scorer betting and he looks a great punt to be the first Australian try scorer at 13/2 on Saturday with Ladbrokes.com.

The Australians have scored 30 points or more in their last four meetings with South Africa, which suggests it could be a high scoring affair in Durban. It is likely to be a close affair though with Ladbrokes offering Australia at 10/11 with a handicap of advantage of +3 points, with South Africa the same price with a handicap of -3 points.

We fancy the Australians to make it back-to-back wins against the Springboks for the first time since 1963 on Saturday as their greater match practise shines through. With so little to choose between the sides it could be worth a look at Australia to win by a margin of 1-10 points at 5/2 with Ladbrokes.
