Six Nations Latest Betting: Outrights, Grand Slam, Triple Crown and Top Tryscorer

Following their excellent 26-19 win against Wales at the Millennium Stadium England have been made the favourites to win the 2011 Six Nations, with best price odds of 5/4 available from Paddy Power. It is a close affair however with defending Grand Slam champions France next best in the betting at 6/4 generally and Ireland at 4/1. Scotland, Wales and Italy after losing their opening matches have all been cast as tournament outsiders.

The Six Nations Fixture list has been kind to England this year, who now play their next three games at home, beginning with a visit to Twickenham by Italy this Saturday. This is a game that Martin Johnson’s team should win comfortably; however, he will not underrate the Italians, particularly after their spirited performance against Ireland last weekend in Rome where they only went down 11-13 by virtue of a last minute drop goal courtesy of substitute outside half, Ronan O’Gara. Nonetheless England are overwhelming favourites in the betting to win, with some Bookmakers quoting them at a massive 1/66 odds on with Italy 20/1 against.

In the other two games this weekend, Scotland have been made 8/11 odds on favourites to hand a second defeat to Wales at Murrayfield, while France are 4/5 to beat Ireland (6/4) at the new Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Assuming England defeat Italy there will only be two teams after these second games who can still win the Grand Slam, England being one and the other being the winner of the Ireland v France match. Easy to understand therefore why England has been given odds 5/2 by Paddy power to win the Grand Slam with France at 4/1 and Ireland at 8’s. Favourite in this betting market however is No Grand Slam with odds of 4/5.

With odds of 7/4 in the top try scorer betting market, Ashton looks a good bet.
