The defending champions once again are Leicester Tigers, who won both the regular season league table and the knock out Grand Final last season; finishing 2 points clear of Northampton in the league and winning a hard fought Grand Final with Saracens at Twickenham by 10-9. It was the ninth time the ‘Tigers’ had finished at the top and the fourth time in five years, which is why they have been made short price favourites at 7/4 with Paddy Power to win again this year.
It should be noted, that the new sponsors of the Premiership, for at least the next four years are Aviva who replace Guinness. This change might prove confusing to some at first, particularly as the league is well established as the Guinness Premiership.
The league also welcomes Championship winners, Exeter into the top flight for the first time, but it is clear at the outset that they will have a very hard job in staying there with the standard so high. The Bookmakers in fact do not give them any chance whatsoever; Paddy power in fact make Exeter 500/1 to win the Grand Final and 4/9 odds on to be relegated, which just about sums up their chances.
2010/11 Aviva Premiership Odds Comparison
The biggest dangers to another successful Leicester campaign would appear to still come from those teams closest to them last year, namely Northampton, Bath and Saracens, although Wasps will say that they have a big chance this year and London Irish still believe that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Although he will be closely watched this year, Northampton and England winger, Chris Ashton is a worthy 5/1 favourite, with paddy power to be top try scorer once again. Ashton scored 16 tries in 20 Premiership appearances last season. It was a magnificent season all round for him as he also won the Premiership player of the year and established himself in the England first XV. Second in the Top try scoring betting is Tom Varndell of London Wasps, who is one of the quickest wingers in the world. Varndell is at 8/1, while Bath’s Matt Banahan is also being supported in the market, with odds of 9/1.
Once again the Premiership looks likely to be yet another riveting spectacle, with several teams having sufficient wherewithal to enjoy big seasons. The top four in the betting look to be the ones for punters to follow, but it is essential to keep up with proceedings each week, as the situation changes rapidly.
