The Super League is the premier Rugby League in the UK and has changed the face of the game including turning the sport into a summer game when it was first played in 1996. The game has gone from strength-to-strength since then with fantastic live coverage from Sky Sports throughout the season. The league has expanded to include both a French and a Welsh Franchise.
The 2010 Rugby Super League kicked off on the 29th January when the Celtic Crusaders took on defending champions, Leeds Rhinos at the Racecourse Ground losing 34-6.
Leeds start short price favourites to retain their crown for a fourth successive year and if one was to look at competition it is easy to see why. In fact Leeds are in danger of becoming the new Wigan, who dominated the League with such supremacy in the late 80s and early 90s. To add further reason, they have signed Greg Eastwood, regarded as one of the best wingers in the world and is fresh from helping New Zealand to world cup success.
Nearest rivals to the Rhino’s is of course St Helens, who will be without Sean Long from now on, so often their inspiration from the scrum half position. That said his replacement Kyle Eastmond is certainly one for the future but has enough about him at present, to test most defences in the League.
Challenge Cup winners, Warrington, should improve their league form considerably now that they have the undivided attention of coach, Tony Smith. The Wolves were disappointing in the League last season, finishing in 10th spot with 12 wins from the 27 matches played. They will be looking for at least a top six spot this term. To help their cause they have made several good signings, including, Richie Myler, Ryan Atkins and David Solomona.
Hull could be a team to watch this season, especially as Sean long will be their gain and a big loss to saints. They have also brought in Kangaroo International Craig Fitzgibbon to aid their cause.
Super League betting has always been a popular pastime for both rugby league and sports punters alike. Bookmakers are very keen to create popular markets and generally offer fantastic value on the handicap market. Since its inception there have only been four teams who have won the trophy, who are Wigan Warriros, St Helens, Bradford Bulls and current Champions, Leeds Rhinos.
At the end of the regular season the top six teams in the League go into the play-offs with the final two teams playing a Grand Final at Old Trafford in October,
The finals of the Super League is played in front of crowds similar to football finals and Super League betting is equally as popular, with free bet on Super league final winner and winning margin and first try scorer. Whatever your betting preference make sure to check out our betting review.
