GAA Sports
In Ireland the number one sport is GAA. The two forms of this sport are Gaelic Football which by far is the most popular of the GAA sports with Hurling a distant second. The GAA sporting movement originates as far back as records can take us. It became the alternative to English sports such as football, rugby and cricket in the early 1900's.
The All Ireland Gaelic football league is the main league with the final played at Croke Park at the end of the summer. Finals day for both forms of the game are two of the biggest sporting days on the Irish Calendar.
Gaelic Football is a combination between English football and Rugby and it would only take people familiar with those sports a short time to understand the fundamentals of this game. The Irish Bookmakers Paddy Power and Boylesports cover all the main games and there are any number of GAA followers who enjoy a little flutter on their fancies.
Hurling is played on the same pitch as Gaelic Football, the key difference is that a stick or Hurley is used and the ball is a little similar to a white cricket ball.
Aussie Rules
Similar to the GAA this is a sport played pretty much in the one country. Many of you will have come across this sport and once again it is combination sport something similar to Rugby and Football. It has a lot of similarities to Gaelic Football and there are occasional matches between Australia and Ireland where a combination between their two rules are implemented.
In Australia this sport has a good following and the Aussie bookies also like to offer odds on the big matches.
