Vettel Can Take Consolation By Going Fastest At The USA Grand Prix In Texas
Sunday’s USA GP from Austin, Texas is arguable one of the most valuable of all F1 races on the calendar. The USA is a big place and yet it stages just one race. Every manufacturer knows the value of TV exposure on the US TV networks this single race creates amongst a vast marketplace.
So far it is Mercedes who have enjoyed the most air-time with Lewis Hamilton winning this race four times. On the only other occasion it was held, 2013, it was Red Bull who enjoyed the headlines with Sebastian Vettel taking the race win.
But ‘fastest laps’ count for a lot amongst North American motor sport fans who are more accustomed to Indycar and Nascar racing which cherish this accolade. One must question if it is any coincidence that Ferrari’s number one driver, Sebastian Vettel, has claimed the fastest lap here in Texas four times from those five previous races.
|Sunday 22nd October - 8.00pm||Odds||Won/Lost||Bet|
|USA Grand Prix|
|Tips||Winning margin under 5 seconds Best Bet||@ 11 / 10|
|Sebastian Vettel to set the fastest lap||@ 11 / 4|
|Kimi Raikkonen to go fastest in Practice 1||@ 15 / 2|
Naturally all cars and drivers will be trying as hard as usual but it can be no coincidence that Sebastian Vettel stopped for new tyres three laps from the end of last year’s race. His was also the last car to stop for new tyres (and the only driver to stop four times) in 2014.
When it’s all said and done, the 11/4 about Vettel taking his fastest lap record here to six from seven and his career record to 32 fastest laps rates a live bet (Betfred).
The history books give out mixed signals in regard to the total number of finishers we can expect on Sunday. The first two races here saw just one car fail to finish. But there has been an average of four non-finishers in the three years since.
But there can be no denying the likelihood of a narrow margin of victory. The biggest winning margin here has been 6.2sec and that, 2013, is the only year more than five seconds has separated the first two home.
Given just six of this seasons 16 races have been won by more than 5sec, Bet365’s 11/10 looks the bet of the weekend.
Kimi to be Top in Practice 1
Finally, Kimi Raikkonen has been doing his fair share of timesheet topping this season and given Mercedes are clearly not giving Lewis Hamilton maximum horsepower for opening practice sessions in recent times – he is just one-from-seven – we think the Finn should be backed to go fastest in Practice 1.
15/2 (B365) certainly is an attractive price when you consider Raikkonen has topped all practice time sheets three times during the last five race weekends. Over the same period Hamilton (the 6/5 favourite) has also done so three times, but Vettel, Verstappen and Bottas have prevailed just twice.
