The Best Bets For The Spanish Grand Prix

Ferrari’s No. 1 Is Topping Time-sheets

There’s been a sum total of 10 practice sessions during the current Formula 1 season during which time Sebastian Vettel has topped the time-sheets on six occasions.

Not only does the German now have the fastest car, there’s also been a noticeable shift in Mercedes race preparations which has seen his chief rival, Lewis Hamilton, go only fourth fastest in the opening practice session in Russia last time and tenth in Bahrain before that.

These factors make Bet365’s 7/4 about Sebastian Vettel setting the fastest time in Friday’s opening practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix an outstanding betting proposition.

Tips Sebastian Vettel to go fastest in P1    Best Bet @ 7 / 4
Safety car not to be deployed @ 11 / 10
Kimi Raikkonen to set the fastest lap @ 11 / 2
Both Red Bulls cars not to finish @ 11 / 4

A Safety Bet

The race itself is likely to be decided in qualifying. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is an outrageous front-runner’s track where overtaking is extremely difficult. Naturally a safety car could shuffle the deck somewhat but there has only been one here in the past seven years.

With the prices on offer for the race victory looking very much in line, a play on that safety car market is a better investment. It can be backed at 11/10 (Bet Victor) to stay in its garage.

Kimi For A Third 2017 Fastest Lap?

Interestingly the previous results show neither the race winners or pole setters set the fastest lap here - not once since 2008 anyway. We fancy Kimi Raikkonen to top Sunday’s race time sheets.

The Finn has plenty going for him. He’s not won a race in almost 80 starts (Australia 2013) and his last pole position was in 2008! He has a very fast car though and with two fastest laps already this season, he looks a great proposition at William Hill’s 11/2.

Raging Bull

Retirements can be high in this race (5-2-2-3-5-3-5-6-7-8-5 in recent years) despite the lack of safety car inducing accidents. It is one of two reasons we like Bet365’s 11/4 about both Red Bull cars not being classified.

The other is the poor reliability their Renault engine has been delivering this season. Three times in four races this season a Red Bull has ended up parked on the side of the race track or in its garage before flag fall.
