Motor Racing Betting Guide

Motor Racing is becoming an increasingly popular sport to bet on. There are a host of betting opportunites that fall under the motor racing umbrella, including the Moto GP motorcycling, NASCAR and the World Rally Championship, but it's the Formula World Championship that attracts the most betting money and opportunities.

The nineteen race shedule for the F1 season kicks off in Bahrain on 14th March and goes right through to November where it ends in Abu Dhabi. There'll be plenty of twists and turns along the way but becuase there are so many different markets to bet on for every race and in the outright betting there's always some interest for the punter.

2010 promises to be an exciting year with Michael Schumacher coming out of retirment to drive for his former boss, Ross Brawn, at Mercedes, alomgside Nico Rosberg. The teaming up at McLaren of World Champion Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton is also an exciting development. The Ferrari team of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa will always be a threat, but the same applies to the Red Bulkl outfit of Sebasttian Vettel and Mark Webber. Alonso in fact heads the ante-post betting for World Champion whilst his team, Ferrari are favourites for the constructors crown.

2010 Constructors Championship

Only six teams earned points at the Bahrain Grand Prix

• 1st Ferrari – 43 pts
• 2nd McLaren – 21 pts
• 3rd Mercedes – 18 pts
• 4th Red Bull – 16 pts
• 5th Force India – 2 pts
• 6th Williams – 1 pt

After his victory in the opening Grand Prix in Bahrain, Fernando Alonso, twice a winner of the Drivers Championship has been made favourite to win the world title this year with odds of around 11/8. However it is Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull who is next in the market at around the 7/2 mark, with Britain’s Lewis Hamilton just behind at 6/1.

Ferrari are 8/11 odds on to win the Constructors Championship, with Red Bull and Mclaren disputing second place at around the 7/2 mark. Mercedes, with Michael Schumacher in their team are next at 6/1.

A little like backing a horse to place, you can back a driver to finish on the podium. Again, the odds will be shorter but you do stand a better chance of winning with your bet. The podium consists of the first three home in the race.

Poll Position Odds

You don't have to wait unitl the start of the race, many bookmakers will take bets on where the drivers will qualify. You can back a driver to get poll position in qualifying and with the extra television coverage you get with the BBC it's a fun bet to have.
