Yorkshire Oaks Betting

Raced on the third day of the York Ebor meeting, this race is fast earning the reputation as one of the best middle distance races for top class fillies aged three years or over in the world. The reason is quite simple in that the race is open to the older fillies, meaning that we can have Oaks winners past and present racing against each other on the fantastic Knavesmire racecourse.

The race has been in existence since 1849, but has only been open to the older fillies since 1991. It has had some top class fillies who have graced the winners enclosure, including Petite Etoile from 1959, Uswer Friendly in 1992 and Peeping Fawn in 2007.

The most successful of the modern trainer is Sir Michael Stoute, who has won the race nine times, including four wins in five years in the early part of this decade.

2011 Yorkshire Oaks Result

1000 Guineas and Irish Oaks winner Blue Bunting showed her earlier success was no fluke when she scored in the Group One Yorkshire Oaks on the Knavesmire. Mahmood Al Zarooni's filly justified 11/4 ante-post favouritism as she edged out Vita Nova, who herself justified late support in the betting.

Epsom Oaks

Unlike the Yorkshire Oaks the Epsom Oaks is for three year old fillies only and is of course one of the five Classic races held in the UK each year.

It is always raced at the Epsom Derby meeting in June and is often won by fillies who have previously won the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. The race was won in 2010 by the Ed Dunlop trained, Snow Fairy who went on to win the Irish equivalent 1 month later.
