The York Ebor Horse Racing Festival is one of summer’s horse racing delights – which many racegoers believe is on a par with Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood. The York racecourse is just outside the lovely York town centre and is without doubt one of the best and fairest racecourses in the country with outstanding facilities. The Festival takes place over four days between 17-20 August 2010 and is one of the big Sports Bets of the summer.
The main races run over the four days include, the Group 1 Juddmonte International, which is run over a mile-and-a-quarter and was won in 2009 by the unbelievable Sea The Stars. Also there is the Group 1 Victor Chandler Nunthorpe Stakes run over the straight five furlongs which attracts some of the speediest horses in training. The Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks for three-year-old fillies over the classic mile-and-a-half distance is also a very popular betting race, and was won in 2009 by the John Gosden trained, Dar Re Mi.
There are also three Group 2 contests. The Gimcrack Stakes, the Lowther Stakes as well as the Great Voltigeur Stakes - one of the main trials for the following month's St Leger.
Finally there is Britain's richest handicap, the totesport-Ebor Handicap raced over the marathon trip over a mile and six furlongs.York racecourse is a very fair one and it tends to ensure that the winner is the best horse as there are very few bad luck stories.
As with most major Festivals there will be plenty of lively betting markets which can offer punters great betting opportunities, which they can make so much more sweeter by taking advantage of one of many Free Horse Racing Bets - Bookmakers Online Offers. Opening an account could not be simpler, just a click is required on the appropriate Bookmaker link and to follow the registration prompts.
The York Ebor Festival is to the north of England what Royal Ascot is to the south – a great racing festival that attracts the very best horses in racing. So similar are the meetings that when the Ascot venue needed to have major refurbishments carried out in 2005, Royal Ascot was actually held at York and its Knavesmire racetrack.
Now back to its rightful place, Royal Ascot has carried on where it left in 2005 and is still regarded as premier flat meeting in the country, boasting 16 Group races over its five day duration.
Sadly the 2010 Festival will not see the great Yeats, who broke all records when he won his fourth successive Ascot Gold Cup at the 2009 Festival. As a result of that win Yeats will go down in Ascot history as one of the legends of this great meeting.
