Winter Derby Betting

The Winter Derby is a Group 3 horse race run over one mile and two furlongs on the all-weather track of Lingfield Park Racecourse. The race is open to thoroughbreds aged four and older and takes place towards the end of March, to celebrate the end of the Winter all-weather season, before the top action begins on the horse racing flat turf season.

The Winter Derby was only established in 1998 and it was given Listed status just a year later. It is officially the first Group race of the British flat racing season and past winners include Tranquil Tiger, Hattan and Eccentric. 

Two jockeys' have won this race more than once. Richard Hughes has won it twice aboard Sergeant York in 2001 and Scintillo in 2009 whilst Frankie Dettori also has two winners, with Parasol in 2003 and Caluki a year later. No trainers have won it more than once but it is becoming a much more popular race with the big stables so we can expect that stat to change in the upcoming years.
