Sun Chariot Stakes Betting

The Sun Chariot Stakes is one of the highlights of the Cambridgeshire Meeting in late September as several top class fillies and mares battle it out for the group one title. The race has become an exciting betting opportunity over the years and only two horses have won the titles in successive seasons.

The one mile race over the Rowley Mile had originally been a one mile, two furlong affair but was clipped back in 2000, and it was opened up to both fillies and mares, as opposed to just fillies, in 1974. It is open to thoroughbreds aged three years of age and over and it can lay claim to some very fine winners in the past.

The race is named after Sun Chariot, who won the Fillies Triple Crown - the 1,000 Guineas, Epsom Oaks and St Leger Stakes - in 1942.

In 2010, Sahpresa justified strong ante-post back in the betting as she claimed the title for a second successive year and became only the second horse to achieve the feat. Meanwhile, when looking at the ante-post betting, you could do worse than to check the form of entries from Luca Cumani's stables as he has trained the most winners in the race - although he hasn't had a winner for a while.
