Scilly Isles Novices' Chase Betting

The Scilly Isles Novices Chase takes place during February each year and it has hosted some very fine winners in the past, with betting on this national hunt race proving hugely popular.

It is run at Sandown Park each year, although in 2012 it was moved to Newbury after the original race was abandoned due to frost. It is a Grade One contest so you can usually expect to see plenty of quality novices when checking out the ante-post odds, while it involves a trip of 2 miles, 4 and a 1/2 furlongs, with seventeen fences to be jumped along the way.

None were more brilliant than Henrietta Knight's Best Mate, who after winning this Grade One in 2001 went on to win the coveted Cheltenham Gold Cup on no fewer than three occasions.

The 7-year-old scored a decisive victory from 12/1 chance Micheal Flips, although ante-post favourite Walkon was a disappointing fourth as his chase career continues to falter.
