Royal Lodge Stakes Betting

The Royal Lodge Stakes is an exciting betting opportunity as the flat racing season edges towards its close. It involves some of the finest 2-year-old thoroughbred colts and geldings around, as they compete over a mile in this Group Two at Newmarket.

It was originally run at Ascot but has since moved to the Newmarket course, but the race still maintains its old prestige. It was first run in 1946 over five furlongs and was changed to its current distance in 1948.

The race has a fine history that makes it an ideal opportunity for take in the odds as winners of the Royal Lodge Stakes earn an automatic invitation to compete in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, after the race became part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge in 2008.

Furthermore, the race is a prime opportunity to take a look at those juveniles who could progress next season and a few could be worth making a note of for betting on in the future. Four Royal Lodge Stakes winners have gone on to win the following season's Epsom Derby, while the wondermare Frankel was a winner here in 2010 and she has since gone on to win the Greenham Stakes, 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes amongst others.

The Royal Lodge Stakes is part of the Breeders Cup challenge, which means that the winner of the race goes on to compete in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf at the prestigious Breeders Cup meeting.
