The Royal Bond Novice Hurdle takes place at Fairyhouse race course, Ireland usually during late November or early December each year. The race was established in 1994 and it is named after the Arthur Moore trained national hunt horse Royal Bond, who enjoyed such success in the early 80s.
The race has a prize purse of £85,000 and is for novice hurdlers aged 4 years and over, while it is an Irish Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race. The race is run over a distance of 2 miles and takes in 9 hurdles in all. It makes for a great day of betting as it is very often held on the same day as the Drinmore Novice Chase and the Hatton's Grace Hurdle.
Other big races held during November and December include:
Tingle Creek | Peterborough Chase | Navan Novice Hurdle
Arthur Moore's nephew Paul Carberry is currently the leading jockey at the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle having won there four times in 1994, 2004, 2005 and 2007. The latter three wins all were on Noel Meade trained horses and those three victories make Meade the most successful trainer in this novice hurdle. Keep an eye out for Meade when considering the ante-post odds and look out for the latest horse racing betting opportunities.
2009 winner Dunguib went on to enjoy success at the Cheltenham Festival, coming a respectable third in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
