Rockfel Stakes Betting

The Rockfel Stakes is an exciting betting opportunity as the flat racing season edges towards its close. Run over seven furlongs, this Group 2 contest for two year old fillies is run on the same day as the Cesarewitch (formerly Champions Day) at Newmarket.

The race takes place on Newmarket's Rowley Mile every October as the flat racing season comes to an end and past winners include Spacious, Cape Dollar and Music Show. There is a purse available of up to £80,000 for the race and is named after a filly who won two classics way back in 1938.

The race was established as recently as 1981 and granted Listed staus four years later in 1985. It was promoted to a Group 3 one year later and has been a Group 2 race since 1998.

Four winners have gone on to win the following season's 1000 Guineas and the race is seen as a valuable trial. The Hills family have enjoyed this race in the past, with Michael Hills the most successful jockey in the race winning three times and his dad Barry the most successful trainer with four wins, most recently in 2004 with Maids Causeway.
