Richmond Stakes Betting

The Richmond Stakes takes place on the fourth day of the five day Glorious Goodwood meeting in July and it attracts some very fine flat racing sprinters for punters to have a bet on. The five days offers a feast of odds and betting for the horse racing enthusiast and the Richmond Stakes is definitely one to look forward to.

It involves a six furlong distance and this Group Two is open to 2-year-old thoroughbred colts and geldings. The race used to be open to female horses as well but was changed to include just makes in 1989.

When considering the ante-post betting for the race, it will be of little interest to punters that Matthew Dawson is the most successful trainer in the race's history with five wins - although they occurred from 1877 to 1884! Of far more value could be to take a look at the odds of horses from the stables of Richard Hannon, as the trainer has enjoyed plenty of recent success in the race, not least when securing a hat trick of wins from 2008 to 2010 with Able Speed, Dick Turpin and Libranno.

Ante-post favourite Harbour Watch justified pre-race billing to win the 2011 Richmond Stakes. It gave trainer Richard Hannon a fourth successive winner in the race and bookmakers responded to Harbour Watch's impressing display by clipping him in for next year's 2000 Guineas. Bannock and Caspar Netscher completed the places at Goodwood.
