While the Punchestown is the highest quality racing festival held in Ireland, the Galway Festival is the biggest.
Taking place at the end of July each year, the Festival takes place over 7 days and features a full race card on each day. Unlike other Festivals, the Galway version will have racing on some days during the day and at other times they race evenings.
The feature race of the week is the famous Galway Plate which has been in existence since 1869 and was won in 2009 by the Colin McBratney trained, Ballyholland.
The trainer to follow at the Galway Festival is Dermot Weld he has been known to win a third of the races held there at the Festival in the past and rarely leaves without several major honours.
