Welcome to our page dedicated to the Group One Pretty Polly Stakes which takes place on the first day of the Irish Derby Festival.
The Pretty Polly Stakes is a Group 1 horse race open to Fillies and Mares who are three years of age or older. It is one of the most prestigious races for fillies in Europe and always attracts a strong field. It is raced over 1 mile and 2 furlongs at the Curragh on the day before the Irish Derby The winner earns herself an immediate invitation to challenge for the Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf raced in America in November and which carries one of the richest prizes in racing.
The race has been won for the last two years by raiders from Newmarket, Sir Michael Stoute won in 2008 Promising Lead, while John Gosden came up trumps in 2009 with his brilliant Dar Re Mi.
Despite his success in most group One races in Ireland, Aidan O’Brien has only trained one winner of the race which was Peeping Fawn in 2007, while Jim Bolger won it twice in succession in 2005 and 2006 with Alexander Goldrun.
