The prestigious Paddy Power Gold Cup was established in 1960 and has been a popular race ever since. It is run during November each year, at a time when the national hunt season begins to gather pace and competitors look to gain momentum and form ahead of the season's highlight in March - the Cheltenham Festival.

It is a Grade 3 National Hunt chase that is run on the Old Course at Cheltenham, where horses will compete over a distance of 2 miles and 4 and a half furlongs and take on 15 jumps in all. It is a handicap race which offers some of the finest competitors in horse racing a lucrative prize purse of £150,000.

The race is never short of excitement and has witnessed some great performances in the past, hosting some of the legends of the sport in the process. The irrepressible Tony McCoy stands out as the leading jockey over the years, having notched up four victories and he is worth looking out for in the latest odds for the race. Trainer David Pipe took a step towards emulating his father Martin, who won this race eight times, by claiming victory with Great Endeavour in 2011. The winner came in from odds of 8/1 as the 7-year-old easily defeated Quantitativeeasing by seven lengths, with Divers third and 7/2 ante-post favourite Wishfull Thinking a distant sixth.
