Nunthorpe Stakes Betting

Run over five furlongs at the York Tote Ebor Meeting each August, the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes is one of several top class races for top class sprinters. It takes place on the third day of the meeting and is the racing highlight of the day, with plenty of interest in the betting and odds for what is usually a hugely competitive race.

The race has had an interesting history in that it started life in 1903 as a Selling race, but has progressed to its current status by attracting high grade sponsorships, including that of William Hill, when it became known as the William Hill Sprint Cup. It reverted back to the Nunthorpe Stakes in 1990 and is currently sponsored by the Coolmore Stud.

2011 Nunthorpe Stakes Result

20/1 chance Margot Did caused something of an upset as she landed the latest race of the British Champions' Series. Hayley Turner produced a masterful ride to land her own second Group One win of the season, while Hamish McGonagall and Prohibit completing the places. There was disappointment for the well fancied ante-post favourite Hoof It though as the gelding was well off the pace throughout.

July Cup Runners

The July Cup is a Group One sprint over 6 furlongs that takes place during the Newmarket July Festival. Many of the runners in that race will do battle gaunst each other once again in the Nunthorpe which allows punters plenty of good opportunities to study the form and select the winner.

Starspangledbanner, trained by Aidan O'Brien won the July Cup in 2010 by a neck from Equiano but couldn't clinch the Nunthorpe Stakes in the same year.
