The Boylesports.com Hurdle, formerly known as the MCR Hurdle, is held during January at the Leopardstown Racecourse in Ireland each year. It is a Grade 1 National Hunt race for horses aged four years old and over, and it is a handicap race which always makes for interesting odds and betting. Other handicap races include:
The Welsh National | The Lincoln Handicap
The race has enjoyed a host of different names over the years as it was first run as the Irish Sweeps Hurdle, before being named the Ladbroke Hurdle and Pierse Hurdle during the 1970s when it was seen as a key trial for the Champion Hurdle. It was also recently known as the MCR Hurdle but took its current name of the Boylesports.com Hurdle as of January 2012.
It is run over a distance of 2 miles and takes in a total of eight hurdles to be negotiated. 7 and 8 year olds have enjoyed success here in the past, winning all four races between 2007 and 2010 which is worth considering when looking at the ante-post betting. It is also worth remembering that it is a handicap race so when looking at the odds it is also worth checking the horses' weights as it could have an effect on the race.
Contenders from this race often go on to compete atCheltenham Festival in March and 2011 winner Final Approach went on to win the 2011 County Hurdle.
