Lanzarote Hurdle Betting

The Lanzarote Hurdle is an exciting handicap hurdle and it has provided plenty of interest for the betting public in the past. It takes place each year at Kempton racecourse in January and is open to horses aged four years old and over. The national hunt race involves a distance of 2 miles, 5 furlongs and there are ten hurdles to be negotiated along the way.

One of the most exciting finishes of the season occurred in this race in 2006 as Rayshan and Buck Whaley finished in a dead heat and shared victory.

It continues to be an exciting race for punters and it is a race that is steeped in history. It is named after the excellent Lanzarote, who enjoyed an excellent record at Kempton racecourse during the 1960s and 70s. He was a two-time winner of the Christmas Hurdle at the track and was the 1974 Champion Hurdle winner.

The race itself as originally a two mile affair and was run at Carlisle in 2006 before being switched back to Kempton and extended to its current length in 2007.

When looking at the ante-post betting, no one trainer has dominated this race but for those who enjoy race trends when looking at the odds it could be worth noting that 6-year-old horses have enjoyed plenty of success in recent seasons.
