The Irish Grand National is one of the biggest National Hunt days on the Irish Horse Racing Calendar. The Powers Irish Grand National is always run on Easter Monday and is part of the Easter Fairyhouse Festival.

There is always a very big field that goes to post and in general the race is won by horses that are seven years of age or older. As the Irish Grand National is a handicap and the fences are not as tough as the English equivalent, younger horses that are not that exposed have a good record in the race and could be worth looking out for in the racecard.

The race was won in 2009 by the Bob Buckler trained Niche Market, who was then one of the leading fancies for the 2010 Aintree Grand National, but failed to produce the goods on the day.
