Irish Grand National - Irish Horse Racing Bets

The Irish Grand National is one of the biggest National Hunt days on the Irish Horse Racing Calendar. The Powers Irish Grand National is always run on Easter Monday and is part of the Easter Fairyhouse Festival.

There is always a very big field that goes to post and in general the race is won by horses that are seven years of age or older. As the Irish Grand National is a handicap and the fences are not as tough as the English equivalent, younger horses that are not that exposed have a good record in the race and could be worth looking out for in the racecard.

There are usually a number of English trainers that target this race and in recent years they have a good record, like the Irish are farming the Aintree Grand National, the English are getting their own back with the Irish race.

2011 Irish Grand National Result

Organisedconfusion claimed an impressive five length win as jockey Nina Carberry claimed her first ever Irish Grand National title and joined her brothers Paul and Phillip in winning the famous handicap race. The 12/1 winner comfortably beat Western Charmer in a race that was run at a good pace, while ante-post favourite Sunnyhillboy came in third.

2012 Grand National

A week before the Irish Grand National comes the most famous steeplechase in the world, the Aintree Grand National. Favourites of course do not have the greatest record in the race although Comply Or Die who won in 2008 went off 7/1 joint favourite.

In 2009 the race was won by 100/1 outsider Mon Mome, trained by former Grand National jockey Venetia Williams who became only the second female trainer to saddle the winner of the race.
