The Irish Derby is the Irish equivalent to the Epsom Derby but the antepost market for the race does not usually get going until after the Epsom result is known. The market then becomes one of the most active in Irish racing. The Irish Derby is Ireland's number one flat race of the season and is held at the Curragh racecourse and will next take place on 27 June 2010.
The Irish Derby follows on closely from the English Derby and in recent years it has tended to confirm the form of England’s premier Classic.
2010 Epsom Derby Betting Information.
The Irish Derby was won in 2009 by the Aidan O‘Brien trained, Fame And Glory who had been second the Sea The Stars at Epsom, his win gave O’Brien his fourth straight success in the race and his seventh overall.
O’Brien has tended not to just win the Irish Derby but also to dominate the race with a several runners that usually includes pacemakers. Punters should be wary of this tactic as it is not always clear which of the O’Brien contingent is his number one horse.
Naturally there is a big challenge from across the water with the usual raiders coming from the Stoute and Godolphin stables who are normally backed heavily in the Ante Post Betting Market..

With trainer Aidan O’Brien’s dominance of the race in recent years the first sensible tip for this race would be back one of his Irish Derby runners. However that is easier said than done as he usually enters several in the race, including at least one, sometimes two pacemakers.
The problem punters face is that it is never too obvious who the number one Ballydoyle horse is, although in fairness, Fame And Glory, who had been second to Sea The Stars in the Epsom Derby 4 weeks before was the favourite for the Irish Derby and won the race with great style.
It will pay punters to read the thoughts of our in house tipster, Tom Lee of Channel 4 Racing, who will be making known his tips for the race nearer the time of the race.
