The Arkle Challenge Trophy is the premier novice chase of the season and is run on the first day at the Cheltenham Festival. The race is a Grade One level race, for first season novices run over two miles.
The 2009 renewal was won by the Tom Cooper trained Forpadydeplasterer, who went on to become a chaser with some distinction.
