The Hilly Way Chase is an exciting part of the national hunt season in Ireland and it has produced some very fine winners in the past. It takes place each year during December and betting interest in the race is always keen.
It is a two mile race and it takes place each year at Cork Racecourse, where it is one of the feature races during December. It was first run as a Grade Three contest back in 2001 but it has since been promoted to Grade Two status in 2003.
When looking at the ante-post betting, it is well worth looking out for entries from the stables of Willie Mullins. The Irish trainer has claimed four winners of the race, including Golden Silver, who won the race for consecutive years in 2009 and 2010. Golden Silver was also winner of the Champion Chase at the prestigious Punchestown Festival, which only serves to highlight the quality of horse in this race.
Beef or Salmon, a former Punchestown Gold Cup winner, also won this race for successive years in 2002 and 2003, and it could be worth a look at the odds of last year's champion when considering a bet this year.
