The Henry VIII Novices Chase takes place each year during December as the national hunt season really begins to hot up. It is a novices chase for horses aged four and over and it is part of an exciting racecard for betting at Sandown.
It is a 2 mile affair, with thirteen fences to be jumped along the way. It was upgraded to Grade One status in 2011 and it is part of the same racecard as the prestigious Grade One Tingle Creek Chase.
Ante-post betting is likely to be very competitive as some very fine Grade One winners have won in the past, including Direct Route, Contraband and Racing Demon. The highly rated Somersby won in 2009 for Henrietta Knight and Knight has enjoyed plenty of success at Sandown in the past.
