Henry II Stakes Betting

The Henry II Stakes is an important trial race for the Ascot Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and it is an ideal opportunity to consider a betting double on a horse winning both flat races.

The trial at Sandown is a Group Two race and it is for thoroughbred horses aged four years old and over. It is contended over 2 miles and 78 yards and takes place each year towards the end of May.

The racecard has gained in popularity in recent years both in terms of its status, it was promoted to Group Two in 2002, and in terms of its interest from a betting perspective for punters.

It certainly helps that it is a trial for the Ascot Gold Cup, which in itself is an exciting part of the Royal Ascot meeting in June, as many of the leading contenders from Sandown head to Ascot. And many loyal punters will follow their leading fancies from Sandown to Ascot as well.

Blue Bajan produced a strong performance to take the 2011 renewal of the Henry II Stakes as  the 9-year-old beat 33/1 shot Montaff by 2 and a half lengths. Ante-post favourite Holberg could only come third at Sandown though.
