Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup Betting

The Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup is the Irish equivalent of the Hennessy Gold Cup ran at Newbury each November. The Irish version however is a Grade One steeplechase, ran over a distance of 3 miles at Leopardstown racecourse that takes in 17 fences.

It was first ran in 1987 and even from those early beginnings it has always been regarded as a trial for the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Its first winner was the brilliant Forgive ‘N Forget, who had already won the Gold Cup two years previously.

The most famous and popular winner of the race however has to be the incredible Florida Pearl, who won the race four times and also won the King George Chase during a fantastic career.

The Paul Nicholls trained, Neptune Collonges was sent over from the UK in 2009 and duly obliged by winning the race at a canter by 5 lengths from 2008 Welsh National winner, Notre Pere.
