Home / Horse Racing / Great Voltigeur Stakes
The Great Voltigeur Stakes takes place at the world famous Ebor Festival at York racecourse, which also includes the richest flat race handicap in Europe - the Ebor handicap.
The Great Voltigeur is an important race in its own right though as it is afforded Group Two status and has proven to be an immensely popular betting spectacle. It is raced over a distance of 1 mile, 4 furlongs and is open to 3-year-old colts and geldings.
From a betting perspective, the race is a trial for September's St Leger Stakes and it could be worth looking at the odds of a horse achieving the double of winning a Voltigeur and St Leger. Thirteen horses have achieved the 'double' in the past, including Lucarno in 2007. Even if a horse doesn't do the double, it is a prime opportunity to check out the form and chances of your St Leger bet ahead of the following month's race.
Other Ebor Festival races include:
Great Voltigeur Stakes | Nunthorpe Stakes | Yorkshire Oaks | Lowther Stakes
When considering the ante-post betting, it could be worth noting that Sir Michael Stoute has the most wins of current trainers with fourteen victories in the Great Voltigeur, while fortune shone on jockey Jimmy Fortune as he won three of the four renewals between 2007 and 2010.

The Lonsdale Cup is another Group Two race at the Ebor Festival on York racecourse in August and it has proven to be a popular betting spectacle. It takes place later in the festival, generally on the final day, and it involves a trip of 2 miles.
Runners tend to go on to compete in the Doncaster Cup and there is sure to be plenty of interest in the odds and betting for a horse to win both races, while many punters will take the opportunity to check on the form ahead of the Doncaster Cup.....
