Galway Hurdle Betting

The Galway Hurdle is part of the betting extravaganza that is the Galway Festival in Ireland. The festival is Ireland's biggest meeting as it involves seven day of high class racing and there are plenty of betting opportunities to take advantage of.

The highlight of the meeting is the Galway Plate, but the Hurdle is a very a prestigious race too. The Galway Hurdle is a handicap race that involves a distance of 2 miles and it involves nine hurdles along the way. Horses aged four and over compete in this National Hunt race during late July or early August normally as the Festival follows hot on the heels of the Glorious Goodwood meeting.

When considering the ante-post odds and a possible bet it is worth noting that Irish trainers have enjoyed great success in the race, although no one trainer has dominated the race - with Aidan O'Brien, Dermot Weld and Pat Hughes all tasting success over the years.

20/1 shot Moon Dice caused something of an upset to take this prestigious handicap race as the 6-year-old showed great pace to beat Foster's Cross by four and a half lengths after sitting in second for much of the race. 3/1 ante-post favourite, The Real Article, was many punter's certainty for the title, but he failed to justify the mantle as he came in fourth.
