Dee Stakes Betting

The Dee Stakes is a Group 3 race for colts which is raced at the Chester Spring Festival meeting each May. It is run over 1 mile and 2 furlongs and serves as an important Trial race for the Epsom Derby. It takes its name from the famous River Dee, which runs alongside the beautiful Chester racecourse.

The Chester Spring Festival is one of the best weeks of the season for sports betting and in particular for horse racing punters.

The leading trainer with a very impressive 11 wins in the race is Barry Hills, who is always a trainer to follow, not just in this race but at Chester generally. Ironically Hills has yet to saddle the winner of the Derby, despite hitting the crossbar a few times.

Top jockey historically is the imperious Lester Piggott and the almost as impressive, Willie Carson, who won the race five times each before they retired.

The last horse to win the race and who went on to win at Epsom was the Sir Michael Stoite trained Kris Kin in 2003 and before him it was Oath for trainer, Henry Cecil and jockey, Kieren Fallon.

Chester Vase

Also a Trial for the Epsom Derby is the famous Chester Vase which is run on the second day of the Chester Spring Festival, over 1 mile and 2 furlongs.

It is a Group 3 race and usually attracts runners from the higher profile stables such as Sir Michael Stoute, Barry Hills and John Gosden. Over recent years it has also attracted the attention of the top Irish trainers, such as Aidan O'Brien, who has already had two winners in the race.
