The Betfred Classic Chase takes place each year during January at Warwick racecourse and it is always a popular betting heat in national hunt horse racing. It is a handicap chase and there is a great deal of interest in the ante-post betting, with a large field of potential Grand National hopefuls in attendance.
The Grade Three race is open to horses aged 5 years old and over and it involves a testing trip of 3 miles and 5 furlongs, with 22 fences to be jumped along the way.
It is a relatively new addition to the national hunt calendar as it was introduced in 2004, although a similar race called the Warwick National Chase had previously been run up to the year 2000.
The race itself often involves horses who are being lined up for a tilt at the Grand National at Aintree in April, although no horse has won both races so far and you are likely to get long odds on a horse doing the 'double' in the Classic Chase and the National this year.
