Chester Vase Betting

The Chester Vase is a Group 3 which is run over 1½ mile’s at Chester racecourse and is often used by trainers as a trial race for their Epsom Derby entries. It has been established for well over a 100 years and has produced several outstanding three year olds, that have gone on to win at Epsom or even the Irish Derby at The Curragh. It is one of several feature races that take place at the Chester Spring Festival.

Probably its most famous winner is the legendary Shergar, who won this race, the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby in 1981. This all came before Shergar became the subject of the infamous blackmailing/Kidnapping plot which ultimately ended his life.

More recently the Aidan O’Brien trained Soldier Of Fortune won the race in 2007, before going on to take the honours in the Irish Derby. In fact Aidan O’Brien usually has several runners in this race and it looks like he will continue that policy this year too.
