The Cheltenham Festival is the pinnacle of the National Hunt season and takes place at Prestbury Park racecourse in Cheltenham during mid-March each year. In 2005 the festival was extended to four days of Horse Racing Betting which added a further six races to the programme.
The Festival has become so popular tickets are sold out well in advance, both in the UK and in Ireland. There is plenty of interest from the Irish, who travel over the Irish Sea in their thousands year on year for what has become an annual pilgrimage.
There are four Championship races during the Festival and the first is the Champion Hurdle on the opening day, with Jezki emerging a 9/1 winner after all of the pre-race talk had been about the clash between Hurricane Fly and The New One in 2014.
Day two's Championship race is the Queen Mother Champion Chase, won in impressive style by the ante-post favourite Sire De Grugy for the Moore family in 2014.
Day three features the World Hurdle, a three mile contest for some of the finest staying hurdlers around. Jonjo O'Neill's unbeaten More Of That beat the strongly fancied bookies' favourite Annie Power in a thriller in 2014.
The final day hosts the meeting's higlight - the Gold Cup, which was won in dramatic fashion by surprise 20/1 shot Lord Windermere in 2014. All of the pre-race talk had been about Bob's Worth and Silviniaco Conti but Lord Windermere took it from On His Own in a photo finish.
