Growise Champion Novice Chase Betting

The Champion Novice Chase is a relatively recent addition to the Punchestown Festival at Punchestown racecourse in late April or early May. The race was first introduced in 2007, so it is difficult to find any trends at this stage but there should be plenty of value to be found in the ante-post odds.

The race itself takes place on the opening day of the five day meeting and is a Grade One chase for novice chasers aged 5-years-old and over. It involves a distance of 3 miles and it is a real test of novice chasers credentials as there are 17 fences to be negotiated during the race.

The race is effectively the Irish version of the RSA Chase from Cheltenham Festival, although from a betting perspective we are still waiting for a horse to win both versions.

Willie Mullins' Kempes won the race in 2010 though and went on to add the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown in February of 2011, and it emphasises the exciting potential that is on show at Punchestown during the festival.
