The Champion Hurdle is the highest rated race for hurdlers in the country and takes place on the first day of the annual Cheltenham Festival. The date for the 2010 renewal is 16th March 2010. Favourite ahead of the race is the Noel Meade trained Go Native, a winner of two Grade One Hurdle races this season already and also won the 2009 Supreme Novices Hurdle.
Binocular, trained by Nicky Henderson and ridden by champion jockey, Tony McCoy was for many the surprise winner of the 2010 Champion Hurdle. Almost withdrawn a fortnight ago, Binocular was showing signs of indifference at home, but an encouraging training run a week before Cheltenham seemed to have put him right.
No matter what his problems were, he was certainly back to his very best in the race. He was always going well and only had Khyber Kim to beat when they came to the last. It looked, just for the briefest of moments that Khyber Kim, who had also been running very well, was going to put in a huge effort, but Binocular saw him off once McCoy shook his reins once or twice.
It was McCoy’s third win in the race and the second year running that trainer Henderson had saddled the first and third in the race. It was also Henderson’s 35th winner at the Festival.

The 2010 World Hurdle runners will be headed by 2009 winner Big Bucks, who is trained by champion trainer, Paul Nicholls. He has been a strong favourite for this race since the market first opened and he has consolidated his favouritism by easily winning the recent Grade Two, Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury. For many he is the banker of the annual Cheltenham Festival meeting.
