Home / Horse Racing / British Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes
The British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes now forms part of the British Champions Series (fillies and mares category) and has been moved to Ascot racecourse, still taking place in October. It has helped add to the prestige of the race and in turn it has helped to increase the betting interest in the race as it takes place on Champions Day.
The race replaced the Pride Stakes, which was formerly held during the Champions Meeting at Newmarket in October, in 2011.
It is still a one mile, four furlong affair for fillies and mares aged three years old and over, and it maintains its Group Two status.
The Pride Stakes, as it was formerly known, was held at Newmarket for two years from 2008 but has now moved back to its original Ascot home and there is sure to be a wealth of talent to be found in the ante-post betting.
John Dunlop is the leading trainer in the race with nine wins, while Crystal Capella was a dual winner of the race as she won in 2008 and again in 2010.
The race takes place at Ascot on the same day as the exciting British Champions Sprint Stakes.

The race is the season-ending part of the series and as such it attracts some top sprinters over its six furlong trip.
