The Betfair Ascot Chase is run at Ascot in February each year and has attracted a number of stellar names in the past that have dominated the ante-post betting and some that have achieved great things at Cheltenham Fesitval.
It is a race for horses aged five years and older, and is a Grade 1 event run over a distance of 3 miles and five and a half furlongs, with seventeen fences to be jumped along the way.
Previous winners include the legendary Kauto Star, who defeated his nearest rival in the ante-post odds Monet's Garden in 2008 to win by a comfortable eight lengths before going on to Cheltenham. He was odds on favourite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup that year but lost out to Denman, before returning to win the Gold Cup in 2009.
Monet's Garden did return to win the Ascot Chase though as the veteran upset the betting to record victory, while Queen Mother Champion Chase and dual Desert Orchid winner Voy Por Ustedes is another past winner in the Ascot race. They highlight the quality of the field that can so often be found at Ascot in February.
