The first three home in the 2009 Stewards Cup go head to head once again this year in what promises to be a titanic renewal. Head of the betting is last year’s winner, Genki, trained by Roger Charlton, who comes into the race on the back of an excellent Conditions race win at Haydock at the beginning of the month. The six year old is currently a 7/1 chance with Bet365 just ahead of Palace moon and Enact, who are both at 8/1 with the same Bookmaker.
A neck behind Genki at Haydock was Rileyskeepingfaith, who is 5lb better off this time which should, in theory, enable him to reverse the form. The chances of both horses have been boosted considerably by the subsequent win of Castles In The Air who was third behind them at Haydock and who re-opposes them here. Rileyskeepingfaith is 14/1 to win this race while Castles InThe Air can be backed at 16/1.
2010 Stewards Cup Odds Comparison and Race Background
William Knight, already with one winner at the meeting after his Illustrious Blue won the Goodwood Cup, saddles Palace Moon where it should be noted that he has booked Kieren Fallon for the ride. This five year old is due a hike up the weights following his second place in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket, but that will not come until after this race, giving Knight a decided advantage. Palace Moon was previously third in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, which illustrates his ability to get on with fast running, big fields and he is also drawn perfectly in stall 20. To our way of thinking he has got too many things in his favour and we nap him to win this with odds of 8/1 with bet365.
Each way backers should note that bet365 Bookmakers are paying on the first five home which increases the chances of being paid of any selection made. There are of course many in this race who could run well, but it is always best to place the faith in a good outsider, purely for mercenary reasons. We therefore would suggest the David Barrons trained, Hitchens as a lively outsider who warmed up perfectly for this when 7th last week in the SkyBet Dash at York. He is in form, well drawn, on a good mark, has a brilliant jockey on board and at 25/1 is more than capable of getting into the top five in this race.
