The feature race on the final day of Glorious Goodwood, the Nassau Stakes, hosts a high class field of seven runners as Midday bids to win the race for a record-breaking third successive year. However, it is Aidan O'Brien's four-time Group One winner, Misty For Me, who is an industry best priced 2/1 favourite in the odds with Ladbrokes for Saturday's Group One.
Sir Henry Cecil's Midday has won the past two renewals of the ten furlong race in comfortable fashion but is an 11/2 third favourite this time around. The 5-year-old mare would make history with a hat trick win this weekend but a recent defeat to Misty For Me suggests she has plenty to do to overhaul the ante-post favourite.
The five-time Group One winner was six lengths back when conceding 12lbs to Misty For Me in the Pretty Polly Stakes and she looks to have it all to do to turn the tables. It was the second successive race that Midday finished runner-up as she also list to St Nichols Abbey in the Coronation Cup at Epsom.
Misty For Me is well fancied to end Midday's winning Nassau run and the daughter of Galileo arrives in fine fettle after her front running performance in slowly run Pretty Polly. Rated as one of the leading 3-year-old fillies, she was also the 1000 Guineas winner at the Curragh earlier this season and she looks well capable of adding to her four Group One wins to date. The only concern for backers will be the fact she has plenty to prove on British soil after finishing eleventh in the English Oaks and fifth in the English 1000 Guineas.
The globetrotting Snow Fairy adds even more spice to this exciting Group One and the 4-year-old filly is 5/2 second favourite with Ladbrokes.com. The four-time Group One winner showed an excellent turn of foot to pick up the 2010 English and Irish Oaks last year and should be a force against her fellow females after finishing a disappointing fourth on her only outing of 2011 in the Coral-Eclipse.
Elsewhere, Sir Michael Stoute enters Crystal Capella, who is available at industry best priced odds of 7/1 with Ladbrokes. The 6-year-old mare picked up a hugely impressive three length win over the boys in the Group Two Princess of Wales's at Newmarket. That victory came over a mile and a half and there is a concern about how she copes with the drop back in trip and Goodwood's faster ground this weekend.
Sir Henry Cecil also enters his second string in Principal Role (12/1), who was a dual listed event winner at Newbury last year and she improved further when winning a similar event at Newcastle last month.
Meanwhile, the fast improving Barefoot Lady can be backed at odds of 20/1 after she won the Nell Gwynn on her seasonal appearance. She looks an impressive 3-year-old and has picked up some decent results this year - fifth in the 1000 Guineas, second in the Musidora and third in the Coronation.
Field Day completes the field for Brian Meehan, although the 50/1 outsider faces a huge task in this class after disappointing on her three outings this year, and it could be Misty For Me who shows her class to deny Midday a place in the history books.
2/1 Misty For Me
5/2 Snow Fairy
11/4 Midday
7/1 Crystal Capella
12/1 Principal Role
20/1 Barefoot Lady
50/1 Field Day
