The Champion two-mile chaser Big Zeb is in action on Wednesday and heads the betting for the Paddy Power Dial-a-bet Chase at Leopardstown at 1.20pm. Just five runners have been entered and that could be reduced to four if as expected J'Y Vole is scratched, following her run in the Lexus Chase on Tuesday. Last year's six length winner of the Queen Mother Champion Chase was the ante-post favourite to retain his title next March before the recent resurgence of Master Minded, who was an impressive winner of the Tingle Creek earlier this month. A good win for Colm Murphy's stable star on Wednesday in a decent field should see another ante-post market move, in what looks like being a potential thriller in the two mile chasing championship in March. The sponsors Paddy Power make him their 13/8 favourite to land this Grade 1 contest over two miles and one furlong.
The main opposition to Big Zeb looks like coming from Willie Mullins' course and distance winner Golden Silver. The eight year old is a tough competitor in Ireland and a previous Grade 1 winner, landing the Boylesports.com Champion Chase at Punchestown last spring. He was an impressive odds on favourite winner at Fairyhouse last time out in the Grade 2 Hilly Way Chase and will be keen to reverse the form which saw him finish runner-up to Big Zeb when the pair met in November. On that day Big Zeb ran out the one and a quarter length winner but it is thought that the runner-up needed the run and will relish the heavy ground at Leopardstown on Wednesday. At 7/4, it's clear that bookmaker Paddypower also rate his chances of a big run.
Captain Cee Bee is next in the betting at 7/2 and Edward harty's nine year old will be looking for further improvement on his four length win in Naas last time out. The former Supreme Novice Hurdle winner was a disappointing eighth in last season's Arkle Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, despite being sent off the 5/2 favourite. He's bounced back since then winning the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase at Punchestown at the end of last season and scoring on his seasonal debut in the Grade 3 Poplar Square Chase. A good display on Wednesday could see his odds take a tumble in the Queen Mother Champion Chase market where he is currently a 10/1 chance.
Providing J'Y Vole isn't sent out for a second run in the matter of days, the Willie Mullins trained Scotsirish makes up the numbers in Wednesday's card. The nine year old is the outsider in the betting at odds of 16/1 with the sponsor and will be looking for his first win in nearly a year. The course and distance winner was beatne sixteen lengths back in fifth by stablemate Golden Silver in that Hilly Way Chase earlier in the month and it's difficult to see him reversing the form here.
13/8 Big Zeb
7/4 Golden Silver
5/2 Captain Cee Bee
12/1 J'Y Vole (may not run)
16/1 Scotsirish
